[EM-Ventures – 3M] “Safe for Children” Program

“Safe for Children” Program

On the morning of May 14, 2019, at Khuong Thuong Primary School (Dong Da District, Hanoi), the Vietnam Children’s Fund in collaboration with 3M Vietnam Co., Ltd. organized the Launching Ceremony of the “Safe for Children” Program. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha; Head of the Commendation and Reward Department, Office of the President Lương Hồng Quang; Director of the Vietnam Children’s Fund Hoang Van Tien; representatives from the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; representatives from the Hanoi Children’s Fund; representatives from 3M Vietnam Company; and representatives from MSD – Vietnam Institute of Sustainable Development Management.

Speaking at the Launching Ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha stated that with the theme “Safety as if Parents are Around,” the program aims to raise awareness of child safety within families, schools, and the community, thereby fostering a sense of responsibility for child self-protection in society. The program also aims to promote the use of scientific products to create a safe environment for children, as well as educate children on potential dangers and self-protection methods.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha delivered the opening speech at the launching ceremony of the “Child Safety Program.”

The campaign for enhancing self-protection awareness among children aged 6-10 in the 2018-2020 period has been implemented since 2018 and has achieved remarkable results. In 2018, 3,000 sets of advanced safety products from 3M, including masks and reflective materials (clothing, badges, stickers), were distributed to primary school students nationwide.

Following the success of the program in 2018, in 2019, 3M Vietnam Company will sponsor the program with a total value of up to 1.2 billion VND. Accordingly, 3M Vietnam will provide 4,000 sets of safety products, including masks with advanced dust filtration technology, reflective materials with reflective technology on clothing patterns and badges, as well as equip safe staircases for primary school students in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The program will establish interactive game models illustrating the dangers that children often encounter in life, such as pollution, lack of light, and slippery surfaces. These activities will help children increase their awareness of self-protection and learn how to respond correctly, appropriately and safely in potentially dangerous situations.

Moreover, in response to the alarming number of children becoming victims of physical and mental abuse, this year’s campaign organized by the Institute of Sustainable Development Management aims to raise awareness, educate, and train children in coping skills to prevent child abuse. It helps children think and differentiate between “Safe and Unsafe” before taking action, enhancing their ability to protect themselves.
